Chelsea Regain Top Spot in Women's Super League with Victory over Aston Villa

Aggie Beever-Jones on Target as Blues Bounce Back from FA Cup Exit

Chelsea put a difficult few weeks behind them to reclaim top spot in the Women's Super League with a convincing 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at Kingsmeadow on Wednesday night.

The Blues had suffered a disappointing FA Cup semi-final exit to Manchester United on Saturday, but they showed no signs of a hangover as they dominated Aston Villa from start to finish.

Aggie Beever-Jones gave Chelsea the lead in the first half with a clinical finish, and Guro Reiten and Niamh Charles added goals after the break to seal the victory.

The result means that Chelsea move back above Manchester City at the top of the table, although City have a game in hand.

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes was delighted with her team's performance, saying: "I'm really pleased with the response from the players tonight. We were disappointed to lose in the FA Cup semi-final, but we knew we had to bounce back quickly.

"I thought we played really well tonight and created plenty of chances. We could have scored more goals, but I'm happy with the three points."
